We have lots of fun all together
We have lots of fun all together
Our school community is small and friendly and everyone knows each other. We like to do things all together for example:
International Day is enjoyed in the autumn and children come to school dressed ready to travel with their suitcase packed. The school hall is transformed into an airport departure lounge and the children ‘fly’ to four countries in small mixed-age groups of about 12 to experience culture, language and cuisine as well as learn a bit about geography, history and climate. We join together at the end of the day to share what we have learnt with our friends.
During Book Week in March we all dress up – this might be as a favourite character from a book or there may be a theme. Our older pupils read to our younger pupils and vice versa, we come back after school in the evening for a ‘Book at Bedtime’ in our pyjamas and enjoy stories read by our staff with a cup of hot chocolate, there are lots of competitions and then there is the staff play too!
Sports Day happens at Lover Village Green. Parents drop their children at the Green in the morning and the whole school gets sporty - playing team games in the morning in their house groups before parents join us in the afternoon for a traditional sports day.
Often in the summer term we have a Forest Day at a local woodland called Tinney’s Firs. The children do a range of 'Forest Schools' activities such as damming streams, creating art works big and small from forest materials and building dens. In the afternoon we walk back to school with our youngest school members getting a lift in the minibus from half way.
At the end of the year we look forward to ‘Art Week’. Sometimes we take part in the 'Take One Picture' competition run by the National Gallery. The year we did the 'Bathers of Asnieres' by Georges Seurat was a particular favourite! We all spend the week with our curriculum being inspired by the chosen picture and work together to produce class and whole school displays of our talents.
